A number of temples close to Ubud are holding anniversary celebrations next month.


UBUD, INDONESIA, June 23, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Travellers who have booked Ubud hotels for July and are keen to explore the cultural side of the island of Bali should check out the temple anniversary celebrations.

Each temple in Bali celebrates the date that it was built by holding a series of festivities, some of which last for a day while others can take place for longer.

On July 27th 2010, one of the island's most famous religious buildings - the Pura Batu Madeg at Besakih - will mark its own birthday by putting on such a show.

Anyone who is staying in Ubud hotels who decides to check out the Mother Temple of Besakih's anniversary event can expect to see scenes of great jubilation from all the people who are associated with it.

Among the festivities set to take place across the day are dancing and singing, as well as the more restrained - but nonetheless moving - spectacles of meditation, prayer and offering.

Just four days later, a number of the island's other temples - including the Pura Puseh Pura Desa in downtown Gianyar and the Merajan Pasek Gelgel in Denpasar - will hold their own birthday celebrations.

July 31st also marks Tumpek Kandang, a holy day in which locals give thanks to the god of livestock and cattle by bathing cows in a river, before dressing them as humans.
