AsiaRooms.com - Head Into Pattaya on Asarnha Bucha Day
One of the most important Buddhist religious events, Asarnha Bucha Day, takes place in July.
PATTAYA, THAILAND, June 22, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Asarnha Bucha Day is the perfect opportunity for people staying in accommodation in Pattaya to sample one of the Buddhist world's most important religious festivals.
The event takes place on July 27th 2010 in and around temples across Thailand in order to commemorate the first sermon ever given by the Buddha - an occurrence which is now considered to be the birth of the religion.
People staying in accommodation in Thailand during Asarnha Bucha Day can expect to see monks queuing outside temples to receive the offerings left for them by the local people.
Following the day's events, the Buddhist holy men embark on three months of fasting to mark the Rains Retreat, when they traditionally remain inside their temples for the whole period.
In scenes which are similar to Lent, people across the country take part in the Rains Retreat - also known as Vassa - by giving up things likes meat, smoking or alcohol for the duration.
They often take monastic vows throughout the three months, before returning to their regular life at the end of October.
While the scenes of Asarnha Bucha Day can be experienced anywhere in Thailand, those staying in Pattaya could witness the event at the Wat Yansangwararam temple complex, which is around 12km south of the town.
